Both sides of our family are passionate cooks, covering cuisines from Singaporean/Southeast Asian, to French, Italian, German and even Algerian!
Don’t even get us started on the fusion dishes that we’ve experimented on our family and friends

Since we cook so often, we like to “pamper” ourselves by visiting La Maison de Roellinger to stock up on quality spices which we use regularly (e.g. pepper), and also take the opportunity to discover new ingredients which we’ve never tasted before.
There’s even a treasure chest in the middle of the boutique showcasing a dazzling array of spices.

For those who find the name familiar, the Maison was opened by 3-Michelin star Chef Olivier Roellinger and his family.
Chef Olivier’s restaurant was closed in 2008 due to his health, but you can still taste his son Chef Hugo Roellinger’s delightful 2-star Breton cuisine at Le Coquillage La table des Maisons de Bricourt (The Shell, The Table at the House of Bricourt)
Before we visited the maison, we never realised there were so many different pepper varieties and blends.
An example would be the wild Andaliman pepper, a variety of Sichuan peppercorns with a surprising kaffir lime fragrance. It goes perfectly with white meats and fish.

You’ll also find exquisite spice powders which you can sprinkle on meats or fish and recreate Michelin-level flavours in the comfort of your home.
We really like the “Poudre à Braises” which contains a mixture of black and white pepper, rosemary, mustard, celery and other spice notes. It’s great for grilled red meats!

For saltwater fish dishes, you can’t run away from “Poudre Marine” which is made from lovely blend of fennel, ajwain, coriander, garlic and other spices.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and don’t know what to get for your close ones or yourself (we have this problem all the time), we recommend going to a sachet of poivre du monde – a blend of white, black and other exotic peppercorns which when ground, takes your cuisine to a whole new level.

User warning – it’s going to be hard going back to supermarket spices after you’ve tried the above!
