Everytime we catch a train from Bordeaux St Jean train station, we can’t resist dropping by Le Fournil de Belcier for their freshly baked sandwiches and pastries.
I’m not sure if it’s the air, sun or food, but people in Bordeaux just seem incredibly warm and helpful.
You often have people going the extra mile to help, with incredible patience as they wait for you to cross the road, or chat with the shopkeeper about the simple pleasures in life (good weather etc) despite a huge queue forming.
True to bordelaise culture, the boulangerie’s staff is always smiley and takes time to explains the source of their raw ingredients (locally sourced traditional wheat types and slow fermented bread making techniques), and the different flavours of the day.
Try their sandwiches with homemade pesto (come late and they always get sold out ?), kiwi juice, traditional madeleines and fragrant cannelés.
Come at 10am for the freshest cannelés with the outside crispy, and the centre still warm and moist! ???
